Catfish Flats CD Review

Catfish Flats - Down at the Flats from Kudzu Music.org

Down at the Flats oozes excellent blues - exemplified by the opening refrains of George Eberlein's outstanding slide guitar playing.  A power trio of the highest proportions, Catfish Flats delivers it all:  boogie-blues, power ballads and delta stompers.  These songs tell the stories of people we know all-too-well, the down-and-out and the hopeless.  The real treat is that there is a certain amount of acceptance and forgiveness in this music, blues for the right reasons, if you will.  With a nod to those that came before: Muddy Waters, Duane Allman, ZZ Top and the british blues invasion, George and the boys deliver a cd that will have you taking off work early and heading for your favorite juke joint.  Get the fever.

To hear a clip of any of the songs from the album, just hightlight any of the song titles in the window below, and hit the 'Play' button. You may also purchase an .mp3 download of any or all of the songs from this window.

Down At The Flats is also available through CD Baby and Digstation for .mp3 downloads. Click on one of the images below to go to our page on those sites.

Catfish Flats started quite accidentally. Original drummer Henry Jolley, bassist Jon Wells and I took a one off gig as a trio. We had played together many times over the years but always in larger bands. By the second song of the gig it became obvious that something unique, very musical and incredibly fun was happening as we worked in the trio format. There was a freedom and spontaneity happening with the tunes we played that night and all three of us wanted to explore more of what the trio format could bring. The crowd reaction was fantastic and soon we were booking the band regularly and working on original material.

Catfish Flats would like to welcome our new drummer, Brian McDonald to the family. Brian is a seasoned professional with years of experience playing a wide variety of music. He is adding a great feel to our original material and I am looking forward to recording some of my new tunes with him. Please check the Bio page for more information. Rick and I feel very fortunate to have Brian onboard.

Some very positive reviews of our album are starting to come in. I set up a page, Reviews and Press for any reviews that released. On that page I have also included an article from July, 2005 written by my dear friend Mick Graves. Mick passed away July 9, 2006. Give it a look. It is a very funny and well written piece.
Also, check out the Songs Page. There you will find a 30 second clip of each song from our album, plus a section on how each song was written and recorded.

I just put three songs from our forthcoming album on the Sounds page. "South of Highway 31" is one that we've been doing live for a while. We always get a lot of requests for it. Now you can hear the version that will be on our album.
The second song is "Living With Regrets". This song was written in the studio and as of this writing, we have never done it live. Henry did and absolutely incredible drum track on this one. Give them a listen and tell me what you think.

Also, I'd like to invite you all to check out our site at MusicNoyz.com. MusicNoyz is a site for independent recording artists to feature their original music. I have posted five of our songs and they are available either to download or play in 'streaming' mode. We have been seeing a lot of activity on the site. It is great to know that so many new people are being exposed to our music. MusicNoyz also keeps a chart with the ranking of all the bands by the number of downloads. Please drop by MusicNoyz/Artists/Catfish Flats, listen to some of our tunes and help bump us up the charts.
Thanks.

Catfish Flats had the pleasure of taking part in a memorial concert and jam for our friends, Wayne Helton and Byron Van Atta. These two great local musicians passed away this past year and are sorely missed by their friends and families. Held in Mobile at the Municipal Park, there were 6 bands on the bill and we ended it up with an incredible jam. Rick organized the event and it was a huge success.
