We would like to officially welcome our new drummer, Brian McDonald to the band. Brian has been doing live shows with us for the last three weeks and he sounds outstanding. We have been friends for years and barely missed playing with each other in a couple of bands. Brian brings experience, enthusiasm, strong creative input and a killer groove to the band. He fit in perfectly from the very start and really adds a great feel to our material. He has a pocket on some of the shuffle stuff that is as deep as the ocean. 'Statesboro Blues', a tune I have been doing for 30 some-odd years has never felt better with any drummer I've ever played it with. Brian's groove breathes and flows and it makes singing and playing the song so much easier.
In addition to his considerable musical talents, Brian is the nicest, most easy going guy you'll ever meet. He has the same deep love and compassion for playing music that Rick and I share. We are truly fortunate to have him in the band.

Welcome aboard Brian! I look forward to a long and fruitful musical relationship. I have a batch of new songs and I can't wait to get in the studio with you and Rick and hear them come to life.

10-07-06 The show at Bay Fest went great. The weather was absolutely perfect. It was a cool, clear fall evening with a beautiful full moon. The stage and sound crew were great to work with and the show went off without a hitch. Thanks to Brother Jack Eberlein for coming out and helping me with my guitars. I told him he could have a bright future as a roadie (oh, excuse me, a Guitar Technician) but he said no thanks.
Our CD will be here on October 9. That is me and Henry's birthday so that is nice timing for an album release.
I had requested a partial shipment of CD's to be sent via UPS overnight to arrive before the Bay Fest show. To make a long story short, the shipment disappeared somewhere between New Jersey and south Alabama. As of this writing we still don't know where they are.

10-01-06 We will be playing Bay Fest in downtown Mobile, AL on October 6 at 8:30pm on the Launching Pad stage. We are hoping to have our debut release on sale. (It is going to be close. The CD manufacturing company says they are going to make the deadline) We will be doing all the songs from our album in our set. Go to www.bayfest.com for maps and more details. Come on by and say hello.

9-17-06 Well the big news is, our album is finally finished and is being mastered and pressed (is it called 'pressing' when they make a CD? Maybe that term is just for vinyl. Anyway, it is being 'duplicated' and packaged) Tentative release date is Oct. 4, 2006. It has been a long time coming and it will be great to finally have the finished product in hand. Go to the Album page for more details and a look at the front and rear cover artwork. Check out the Songs page for track by track information about the writing and recording of the songs on the album.

6-22-06 I just added a Guestbook to the site. Drop by and leave us a message. Tell us we sent ya.
6-17-06 We had an incredible show at The Pub in Fairhope. Molly Thomas came in and played violin with us for an entire set. It was a real treat. "Angel From Montgomery" was just incredible.
And as is the case with most shows with a special guest, I forgot my camera.
6-11-06 I just put a new section on the site. 20 Questions with Catfish Flats. I came up with 20 (well actually 21) questions and posed them to the guys. I think the responses are interesting Check it out here.
4-21-06 We played a new club in downtown Mobile called the Krewe. Normally the bands play outside in their courtyard, but due to stormy weather we played inside. We had a great night playing. The club has a wonderful atmosphere and the management and employees could not be nicer. We have two dates there coming up in May.
A number of friends from the Eastern Shore came by. James 'JB' Boyce of the Lost Boyz came by and played a couple of tunes. James is 'immortalized' in one of our tunes "South of Hwy 31". A great night was had by all.

3-18-06 We had a great gig playing for a private party in Daphne. It was 'new guitar night' with Rick debuting his new Lakeland bass and me doing the second gig with my gold Eastwood. Good food, great crowd and a beautiful night for a show. On a whim we did "Keep On Smilin" for the last song of a set. We'd never played it before and it came off great.

The benefit show for PD Rains was a huge success. Despite absolutely horrible weather we had a great turnout. Thanks to all that braved the weather and contributed. And a special thank you to the musicians, Brent Burns, Category 4, Greg Memphis and JackJaw Jimmy for an incredible evening of music.
And thanks to Ben Trione and everyone who helped organize the event.

11-27-05 We played a memorial concert and jam for our friends, Wayne Helton and Byron Van Atta. These two great local musicians passed away this past year and are sorely missed by their friends and families. Held in Mobile at the Municipal Park, there were 6 bands on the bill and we ended it up with an incredible jam. Rick organized the event and it was a huge success.

11-15-05 We had a pretty amazing weekend. On Saturday the 12th we did a show at Lulu's in Gulf Shores as part of the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival. We shared the bill with 5 other acts and did some of our original material in an 'unplugged' type of format. I played acoustic guitar and Henry used a small kit. It was the first time we had played our tunes in this format and it was a lot of fun. The lovely and talented Elaine Petty was on the bill and it was a joy to hear her set. The show was hosted by my good friend Brent Burns.
The big news is that on Sunday we started recording our album. We are working in Rick's studio and in one marathon session we were able to cut 9 rhythm tracks. Kudos to Henry for laying down some great drum tracks and nailing a number of them on the first take. Go to this link for the Studio photos page

11-04-05 Great gig at the Blues Tavern in Mobile. Henry had (another!) new set of drums and they sounded incredible. We had a couple of guest sit in. Dwight 'Capt. Tone' Everett ripped it up on 3 tunes and we had a wonderful vocalist, April (sorry I didn't get the last name) sit in. We had a packed house all night. It was a pleasure to play at the Tavern again. It is one of our favorite gigs.

07-23-05 We had a busy day today. First we played the grand opening of the Delta Blues House Live in Mobile. We shared the bill with Luther "The Delta Wolf" Wilson and his band. Luther and the guys sounded incredible and it made for a nice afternoon of music. The Delta Blues House is a well set up room and it is a great addition to the Mobile music scene.
Then it was off to the Undertow in Gulf Shores. We had a good crowd of locals mixed with a lot of new faces. Thanks to our favorite photographer Donna Hughes for the pictures.

07-08-05 Fun gig at the Undertow in Gulf Shores. Unfortunately the city officials had just given notice that there was to be a mandatory evacuation of Gulf Shores due to the arrival of Hurricane Dennis. But a good number of hearty souls turned up for the show (while the rest of lower Alabama was at WalMart stocking up on batteries, candles, bottled water and large quantities of alcohol. You know,, standard hurricane provisions) Mick Graves, staff writer for the Pelican newspaper came by and snapped some photos for an upcoming story. Thanks Mick. It was great to see you.

06-18-05 Our gig at The Shed in Gautier, MS was canceled due to bad weather. What a disappointment. We had a great gig there in February and we had been looking forward to our return show.
06-17-05 Great gig at the Eberlein family reunion. Anyone who knows my family could tell you that this was no small gig! A horrible rainstorm came up about an hour before we were scheduled to start, but fortunately it cleared up and we played late into the evening. Personally it was very gratifying to be able to play for three generations of my family, some of which had not seem me play in 20 or more years. It was also great to be able to see and play for all of the kids. It was a very special evening for me.

06-12-05 Unbelievable show June 11 at the Ravenite in Fairhope, AL. We had horrible weather all day due to tropical storm Arlene. No one was quite sure what the turnout was going to be like. Well we weren't disappointed. By the time we kicked off our set at 10pm we had a full house and it stayed that way until the end of the night. We ended up playing until 2:30am and did 3 encores. And the crowd still wanted more. Henry and I grew up in this area and it was a pleasure to see some old friends at the show.
06-03-05

Great show at the Undertow in Gulf Shores. Henry had his new Ludwig kit sounding great. Singer/songwriter Greg Memphis sat in with us during the last set.
And I forgot my camera.

05-09-05 Our first show at Lulu's in Gulf Shores, AL. We had a really great turnout and really good crowd response. The staff were great to work with and they had a wonderful sounding house PA. Fun gig. We're looking forward to getting back in there.

Our first show at the Undertow in Gulf Shores, AL. I think it is going to be a good room for us. A lot of the locals came out and we got a great reception throughout the night. The rhythm section was really on. It was a great night of music.

Great gig at The Shed in Gautier, MS. What a wonderful atmosphere for live music. They have an outside stage overlooking a beautiful courtyard area. The smell of BBQ, incredible sweet tea, a huge bonfire and good blues. You can't beat it. Thanks to the management for treating us so nicely and that to all the "Shed Heads" for making us feel right at home.
